Scribe Marking

Scribe Marking
Characteristics
  • Scribe marking systems for permanent depth marking of components with clear text, serial numbers or graphics, but not with dot-shaped markings such as data matrix codes
  • Available as table-top units, for setting up marking cells or for integration into production lines
Marking of products made of metal, plastic, wood or Plexiglas as well as of hardened surfaces with low noise emission
  • With restrictions, workpieces made of ceramics or thin-walled components can also be marked
  • Typical marked workpieces: Automotive components such as brake discs, crankshafts, camshafts, engine blocks as well as body-in-white, chassis parts or type plates

Scribe marking systems are used for permanent direct marking of components by a needle tip pressed into the workpiece surface with defined force by a preprogrammed movement in the X and Y direction relative to the workpiece surface. This allows the marking of products made of metal, plastics, wood or perspex as well as hardened surfaces with low noise emission. With limitations, it is possible to mark ceramic workpieces or thin-walled components as well. Scribing creates a linear marking. In addition, the free movement of the needle in two-dimensional space enables graphics such as logos to be displayed or the interruption of the polyline by lifting the needle. The closed polyline allows types and numbers to be perfectly marked. The inscription depth is regulated by the contact pressure of the needle, which has either a hardened tip or a diamond tip. Unevenness and height differences of a few millimeters can be compensated, which enables the low-noise marking of many materials up to hardened steels. In pneumatic scribe marking systems the end, opposite to the needle tip, acts as a piston. By impinging the piston with compressed air, the needle is pressed onto the component whilst possible component irregularities can be compensated through a cushion of air. Switchable electrical scribe marking and needle embossing units are also available. Typical applications include the permanent marking of automotive components such as brake discs, crankshafts, camshafts, engine blocks as well as body shells, chassis parts or nameplates. Scribing systems are used in the automotive supply and automotive industries and other branches.
