Circuit breakers are safety components for operating electrical installations. By detecting overloads or insulation defects, they protect against damage to health, fires and property. Typical circuit breakers are miniature circuit breakers, residual current circuit breakers, circuit breakers and motor circuit breakers. Residual current circuit breakers consist of a summation current transformer at their core. The magnetic fields created by the current flow cancel each other out. Any insulation defects that occur induce a voltage on the secondary winding. If the limit value is exceeded between 15 and 30 mA, the holding solenoid relay of the secondary circuit switches off in less than one second. Residual current circuit breakers have been mandatory for all new electrical installations since 2007. Circuit breakers enable switch cabinets and complete systems to be switched off in the event of an overload with current. According to DIN VDE 0113, motor-protective circuit-breakers are current-dependent protective devices for equipment protection that protect against thermal overload in continuous operation. Motor protection relays, on the other hand, only have thermal releases; undervoltage releases protect against motor blockage and uncontrolled starting of machines or systems after a voltage drop. Miniature circuit breakers, also known as circuit breakers, circuit breakers, automatic circuit breakers or fuses, are used in low-voltage networks. Combinations of miniature circuit breakers and residual current circuit breakers are common.
