Image processing solutions for Surface inspection are customer-specific high-end image processing systems for automated optical surface inspection and component surface inspection. They are used for the automated 100% visual inspection of safety and function critical workpieces as well as surface defects. It is possible to inspect components of any materials, geometries and surfaces, as well as to control inner surfaces and drills. Material-related surface defects such as surface-open blowholes and pores or production-related defects such as scratches, bumps, impact marks, flat spots, striae, grinding and polishing defects, stains and rust as well as the presence of burrs and chips can be detected. Testing can be performed on stationary and moving objects. When synchronized with the illumination, test items are typically captured by multiple cameras from different angles, with multi-shot acquisition possible for review. Larger objects can be conveyed behind the cameras and captured step by step. Alternatively, the cameras themselves are moved. In both cases, the position of the object relative to the cameras is determined by the distance sensor. The evaluation of the images takes place using special evaluation algorithms. The most important methods for automated optical surface inspection and component surface inspection are the area evaluation and on and the contour recognition in order to recognize irregularities on the surface. Based on the nature of the irregularities, a distinction can be made between machining marks and errors. Typical test items are functional surfaces such as sealing and bearing surfaces on cylinder heads, engine blocks, hydraulic valve blocks for brake systems, automatic transmissions and crankshafts, connecting rods and camshafts. User industries include the automotive and automotive supply industry, manufacturers of optically high-quality sanitary fittings and other industries.
Image processing solutions for surface inspections are engineered to meet the requirements of high speed test applications, a high appearance variability of defect images, changing items to be tested, challenging test conditions. Typically these solutions include multiple application-specific line scan and/or area cameras, lighting, and powerful evaluation software including programming, an operating unit and, if necessary, handling devices for the workpieces or the cameras.
