Dosing systems for sealant application are systems for the preparation, mixing, dosing, extrusion and application of sealants, including the necessary handling technology. Installations for the application of sealants are used to produce seals for components or assemblies which are to be protected against the penetration of air, gases and moisture or the leakage of oil and water. Sealants enable fast and inexpensive seals and, technically, often offer the best possibility for the production of seals with high requirements, eg chemical resistance, pressure and temperature resistance, etc. Sealants can be used for any desired component geometry. Sealants provide a seal by adhesion to the joint flanks of the components and have a sufficiently high cohesion so that the medium which is present can not penetrate and destroy the sealant. In contrast to adhesives, sealants do not primarily serve to absorb the joining forces. A one or two-component materials, such as highly elastic silicones or tough elastic polyurethanes, are usually used as sealants. Sealants can be adapted to any workpiece geometry and in many cases enable better and more economical solutions for sealing joints. Dosing systems for sealing are basically designed for the application of a specific material, but can often be implemented using standardized components. In automatic systems, a handling system is used, with the aid of which the metering head can start the pre-programmed workpiece contours and apply the sealant. As a rule, handling systems with at least three axes such as portals, Cartesian robots or articulated robots are used. Stations and systems with manual handling of the dispensing heads or freely programmable automatic handling are applied. Dosing systems enable the production of non-detachable seals with sealants. Typical application areas are seam seals on car bodies, carcasses, oil trays or on automobile assemblies. Important automotive industries are the automotive supply and automotive industries.
